DIGICEL RENEWS COMMITMENT TO THE JAMAICA FOOTBALL FEDERATION FOR A FURTHER THREE YEARS

- Platinum sponsorship agreement sees Digicel support all National teams

Monday 13th February 2012 – Kingston, Jamaica: Digicel, proud supporter of football in Jamaica, yesterday announced its renewed commitment to the Jamaica Football Federation with a platinum sponsorship agreement that includes all Jamaica National football teams.

As part of the agreement, Digicel will be partnering with the Jamaica Football Federation to ensure that all elements of the National Programme are in place to support the Reggae Boyz in preparation for the journey to Brazil in 2014. This will comprise local and international camps and games – two critical elements in ensuring that the teams are fully prepared.

However, the agreement also focuses on ensuring the ongoing development of the national youth programme and will see Digicel supporting the national youth teams for the first time including the Under 23s; Under 20s; and Under 17s.

Speaking at the joint press conference with the JFF, Digicel Jamaica CEO, Mark Linehan, reaffirmed Digicel’s longstanding commitment to the development of football in Jamaica and said; “As part of our commitment to the development of football in Jamaica, Digicel is proud to be renewing its agreement with the JFF and the Reggae Boyz for a further three years.

“We are also excited to be welcoming the national youth teams on board as part of the agreement – meaning we are also supporting the ongoing development of Jamaican football at the critical youth level. Digicel’s relationship dates back to 2003 and we are excited about Jamaican football going forward – especially as the Reggae Boyz prepare for their journey to the FIFA World Cup in 2014.”

Captain Horace Burrell said; “I am very pleased that Digicel and the JFF have not only renewed the partnership, but have indeed strengthened it. For so long the JFF has called and yearned for support for our youth teams to facilitate the type of transition that a sustainable football programme needs. Digicel, as the true pioneering entity that it is, has once again stepped up. Our mission to Rio is indeed on the road. Welcome aboard once again Digicel.”

In closing, Linehan added, “This is a particularly special year for Jamaica and Jamaican football. Jamaica celebrates 50 years of independence while the Jamaica Football Federation celebrates 100 years in existence. As proud sponsor of the Reggae Boyz, Digicel is behind the team every step of the way on the road to Brazil.”
