DIGICEL TO SPONSOR THE JAMAICAN OLYMPICS ASSOCIATION FOR A FURTHER FOUR YEARS
December 13th 2011 - DIGICEL TO SPONSOR THE JAMAICAN OLYMPICS ASSOCIATION FOR A FURTHER FOUR YEARSFriday, 9th December 2011 – Kingston, Jamaica: Digicel announced on Thursday its agreement with the Jamaican Olympic Association (JOA) to continue as one of the organisation’s main sponsors for a further four years.
The agreement will see Digicel, a sponsor of the JOA since 2008, continue to support the organisation for the games falling within the remit of the JOA until 2015. These include the Pan-American Games, the Commonwealth Games, the Central American and Caribbean Games, the Youth Olympic Games, the Commonwealth Youth Games, the Winter Olympic Games and the Summer Olympic Games. As addition, as the sole telecommunications partner of the JOA, Digicel will be keeping its athletes and executives in touch on the road to the 2012 London Olympic Games, and beyond.
Senior executives of the JOA, including the JOA’s President, Mike Fennell, were present at the re-signing of the sponsorship agreement, which took place at Digicel’s RKA office.
President of the JOA, Mike Fennell, said: “On behalf of the JOA, I am delighted that we have reached this agreement with Digicel to continue with their sponsorship involvement for a further four years. Digicel’s vast experience in sports sponsorship and telecommunications will be of invaluable use to the JOA, and their position as our sole telecommunications provider will play a crucial role in the execution of our Olympic preparation plans. Digicel’s commitment to developing athletes within all sports is always apparent and we are grateful for their support going forward.”
The Jamaica Olympic Association is the National Olympic Committee for Jamaica. Jamaican athletes have won a total of 53 Olympic medals since their participation began in 1948, and are internationally renowned for their prowess in fields such as athletics. Jamaica will be represented at the 30th Olympic Games in London from July 27th to August 12th, 2012.
Digicel Jamaica CEO, Mark Linehan, said; “Digicel is proud to be continuing our partnership with the JOA for another four years. Digicel champions sport across Jamaica, from schoolboy football and schoolgirl netball, to the Special Olympics and cricket, while also supporting several individual Jamaican sports stars, such as Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Chris Gayle.
